- He3 gas transfer system
Pre info notice
Preliminary publication of specification is 3/17/2025, Place of execution Skåne län.
ESS (European Spallation Source) is seeking to procure a He3 Gas Transfer System that will be responsible for filling, mixing, emptying, and recovering a Helium-3 gas mixture from detector modules with optimal efficiency and minimal losses. This system will play a vital role in preparing detectors for high-precision neutron detection in scientific research.
The scope of procurement includes the supply, testing, validation, training, and technical support for the system, as well as the study, design, manufacturing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), CE compliance, and shipping.
The system must handle vacuum levels of 10⁻⁷ bar and pressures up to 15 bar, ensuring high leak-tightness through the use of orbital-welded joints and VCR-type connections.
Gas Handling: The system should efficiently fill detectors with a Helium-3, Argon, and CO₂ mixture, and recover the gas with minimal contamination and loss.
Design Requirements - The system must incorporate ultra-high-purity 316L stainless steel (UHP) tubing, semi-automated valve systems, and digital sensors to ensure precision and reliability.
Testing & Training - Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) will be performed at the manufacturer’s premises, including a Helium leak detection test. Pre-shipment inspections and comprehensive training for ESS personnel will be required, along with detailed operational and maintenance manuals in English.
The system must be self-standing, mounted on wheels for easy relocation, and designed to minimize fumes and exhausts to the maximum extent possible, as it will be used indoors.
The system must be delivered and commissioned no later than Q3 2025.
