ESS is seeking interest for a 10–12 T horizontal split-pair superconducting magnet for Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) applications. The system shall feature a horizontal field configuration with a beam axis perpendicular to the field, top-loading cold-bore sample access, and compatibility with a liquid helium VTI operating from 1.5–300 K, including dilution insert compatibility. The magnet should provide a sample space diameter of approximately 30–50 mm, achieve 0.1% field homogeneity over a Ø10 mm volume, support bipolar operation with fast ramping (<1 hour to maximum field), and allow tilt operation of approximately ±10–12°. Large neutron-scattering opening angles and neutron-compatible window/shielding materials are required, with design trade-offs to be discussed with suppliers.
